What does Liberty mean to me?

I guess the best place is to start is at the beginning… Liberty.

I, like the rest of America today, was born into the most prosperous and free nation on God’s earth.  I didn’t do anything to deserve this freedom… but thousands before me did.  Hundreds of thousands have died to establish and preserve America’s liberty for future generations.  The only thing asked of us is that we don’t take that liberty for granted and that we be willing to fight to preserve it.

I’ve come to a realization over the past few months.  I realize that most Americans don’t “get” liberty.  America has become a nation of spoiled brats, myself included.  We are angry and outraged when we have to pay $4 per gallon of gasoline… as if the constitution guarantees cheap fuel.  We whine and complain when we can’t afford the car we want or the latest trendy tech gadget.  Materialism has separated us from the values and beliefs that made this country what it is today.

America’s greatness is rooted in INDIVIDUAL LIBERTY.  The notion that the individual should be free from the excessive control of the government and be able to reap the rewards of their labor.

God created man in His own image; we are truly amazing beings.  When set free, we can achieve great things.    Our nation’s greatness was built on individuals who, for the first time in the history of this world, were motivated to succeed from within.  Without a king or queen ruling us we found that the more we worked, the more we were rewarded.  The American dream is about the liberty of the indvidual to produce what we wanted, when we wanted, and how we wanted as long as it does not infringe on the liberty of others.

I don’t know if anyone will read this blog.  I don’t really care.  I just need an outlet to express my thoughts and feelings about this great nation and my concerns about the change that is coming.  I guess it comes down the old saying, “Use it or lose it.”  Many have sacrificed so that I can express my opinion… the least I can do is exercise that right.
